Acupressure

Acupressure massage examines the meridians by applying pressure techniques to specific acupoints that are distal or proximal to the problem. The magnitude and time duration of applied pressure is varied, depending on the desired reaction.  Common massage techniques consist of: 1) rolling, 2) kneading, 3) rubbing, 4) grasping, 5) rub rolling, 6) scrubbing, 7) pressing 8) pushing, 9) wiping 10) chopping, 11) vibrating 12) knocking.

Manipulation therapy includes specialized massage to specific areas through practitioner-guided movement of the extremities, head, neck and spine.  The purpose is to remove obstructions in the superficial vessels, improve circulation of blood, regulate tissues, and relax muscles.  Manipulation also is used to lubricate the joints, reduce swelling, alleviate pain, restore normal joint function including range of motion, treat soft tissue injuries, reduce dislocated joints, enlarge joint spaces, relieve nerve compression, or reduce adhesions.  Common techniques generally include: 1) rolling-kneading, 2) holding-twisting, 3) shaking, 4) wiping, 5) rotating, 6) pulling, and stretching 7) traction-counter-traction manipulation.

Modern research demonstrates acupuncture’s effects on cutaneous inflammatory & immune responses. Proven effective for: wound healing, rheumatoid arthritis & eczema, modulating non-specific immune reactions (atopic allergies), modulating pain experience for chronic neuropathic pain syndromes; changes to blood coagulation (rheumatoid arthritis, gout & psoriasis), enhancing vasodilatory response, increasing IVF implantation success rates and improving heart microcirculation & blood pressure.
